Imagine to be at the United Nations headquarter, representing a country like real ambassadors do, in front of people from all over the world. Can you imagine that? It’s true. Change the world Model UN gives you this opportunity.
In 2015 I joined the project for the first time and I went to NYC with a group of students coming from Palermo. Before this experience we attended to several classes, to learn more about the topic, the countries we had to represent and the rules of procedure. Associazione Diplomatici staff members supported us a lot during this period.
In NYC we joined a real simulation of the UN main bodies. How did I feel while sitting in the GA Hall? Hard to explain, too many feelings involved. Scared, I’d say. Talk in front of so many people in such important context isn’t something you do every day. Once we started I was more than interested in all the discussions and debates we were going through, a lot of students cooperating together to find a solution to a problem. You’re part of this mechanism, and it is real.
What did this experience give me? Nothing can be better than this for a person who is willing to improve his/her knowledge about specific topics. I have studied hard, and really understood what tolerance and coexistence among different people mean.
The best thing about this project is that when the simulation is over you feel very proud of yourself. I think my best memory is when I entered the GA Hall and I really felt like if I was a UN ambassador. I won’t forget it.
